Car Audio

As mentioned a couple posts back my partner purchased a Renault Scenic.  To be honest a great car, neat tidy and gets up and goes.  One big issue with the car is the audio system in it just sucked.  About 3 weeks after getting the car, I fitted a new head unit for it.  I didn't solder the connections primarily because I knew at some point in the new future that new speakers amplifier etc would be added to the car.  So I used the exisitng wiring and hooked up the 4 exisitng speakers... To say the sound output was pathetic doesn't cut it.  These 5.25 inch splits in the front and 5.25 inch two ways in the back were hopeless. The stereo had way to much power for them.  They were a small magnet paper cone variety that car manufactures thought were a good idea.  Anyway after several months my partner orderd some new 5.25 splits for the front,  Up specked the speaker cables ran them to the front doors, created solder joints for all the power lighting etc for the stereo mounted the n

Over 300 Visitors

Well we rolled over the 300 visitor mark sometime this afternoon.  I am a little surprised.  They are mainly coming to look at the printer post I made, but there is a fair smattering of others being read also. I am proud of what I posted here regardless of the numbers, my posts about mental illness, suicide, coming out and things that are personal to me.  I hope that one day they will help others see that there is a reason to keep going. Anyway thanks for dropping by thanks for reading the post about printers, and I hope you come back

Moving House again

Well its happening again. My partner and I have decide we are sick of being treated like we have leprosy by our land lords and sick of the unfulfilled promises.  We pay a fair amount of money for this house and we have been looking around and can get better for the same money. So come 12th Jan we will be off to somewhere new.  I am sick of moving to be honest have moved nearly every year since I have been in town.  I hate the stress the work and the weeks it takes to get life back to normal.  We have a place in mind to move to, a friend of my partners is moving overseas to be with her husband for a couple of years so they want to rent their place out.  We stuck our hands up and hope to sign contracts soon. I will be sad to leave this area its nice a quiet a place where the neighbors talk to you.  Not sure what it will be like where we are going.  One thing is for sure this will be our last move into a rental, next move I hope to be in our own place.  While we were away over the wee

Loving the Printer with CISS

Just an update to the previous post about CISS and printer choice.  I installed the CISS last week and I have to admit I cant tell the difference with the print at all.  The install was relatively simple, they provided a youtube link for install CISS on my printer model. It works well the only obvious thing about the printer that would give away that I am using  a CISS system is that the lid of my printer is open about 4mm to allow the feeder tube through.  If I was going to choose a printer next time I would get one with a stationary ink cartridge system, just a little simpler again. Other than that I love it done some heavy printing and it copes no worries at all.  I just took a great printer and made it fantastic.  One very happy customer. Give it a go its well worth it.

Heading away for a long weekend

Hi, all; Three of us are heading up to Mission Beach North Queensland tomorrow for 3 days away.  I have a special affinity with Mission Beach and its surrounding areas.  My parents first went there in 1996 and continued traveling up there every year till end of 2004, when I got unwell.  I spent 8 weeks there in 2003 with my parents and we had an amazing time. 2003 was probably the last time I will ever fish in the ocean.  Dad had a runabout with a nice new Honda boat motor, and we headed out into the local waters to go fishing.  We didn't catch much but is a fond memory for me.  My father like my grandfather loved fishing, me I'm not so sure, I think its a lot of effort to throw them back, that might just be me being old fashioned. 2 years ago in September my mother laid my fathers ashes to rest out near the reefs that surround the islands, it was his wish to be spread through the corals.  I feel in a way now that I will always be drawn there, and maybe one day when thing

Linux I stand Corrected A real Windows Alternative

Image
Well after the last couple of posts about Linux and Windows, I now stand corrected.  I have found an alternative package that as a desktop ticks 99% of the buttons. Although technically not Linux but Unix, Desktop BSD rocks.  Had avoided using it because it was desktop orientated and because it wasn't supported by the software vendor.  Out of frustration today I decided to download it and see if it truly lived up to the hype of a windows alternative. Well I have had it installed for a couple hours now, and have found it amazingly simple to use and get used to.  It has some pretty cool desktop abilities that blow windows into the weeds.  Multi-desktop, and some cool visual aids make it a pleasant place to be. A lot of distro's don't quite get the video resolution thing right but they have with this. The install manager for software is great, easy to use and it lets you download packages with ease. Everything worked straight out of the box, no updating everything so t

Linux Install Update

Wow, is all I can say.  The software is finally installed and working, some 11 emails to tech support and struggling to get my head around why things were not working.  If linux has one fault when it comes to these things its that it is very complicated.  Each step in the process showed up because something had not been thought about in the previous step, so we were lurching from one error to another. Most of this can be countered however with a more comprehensive how to for the install of the vendor software.  Things like make sure you have all the updates installed, make sure you set your static IP in advance of any install, make sure you disable SElinux and the correct way to do that.  I have learnt about iptables and how to work those and firewall exceptions that are actually separate.  All in all have accumulated a large amount of data on how linux workings are different to windows. As per the last post if you have no desire to ever go to a command prompt for anything linux is

Our Food

Image
A thought occurred to me today, as seems to happen if I spend any time driving round town.  Anyway, I started to think how far we are removed from our actual food sources, and how most people have no idea what goes into making sure we get fed every day. You see when I was younger I was brought up on a farm where we butchered our own animals grew all of our own vegetables and had a small grove of fruit trees.  I still remember seeing my first butchering when I was 5 or 6 years old.  Ask a 5 or 6 year old today where the meat comes, his reply would be the supermarket.  Butchering of animals has become so clinical that most people would not even think about it.  To me it was normal and it took me a few years to get used to the idea of getting meat from the supermarket. Another thing I was thinking about is grains, like rice wheat etc.  Back in the old days you lived or died depending on if your crops did well or failed.  Today commercial crops are grown on a massive scale.  I personal

The Pitfalls of Using Linux

Image
Now I dont know if i should be complaining about linux or the proprietary software I am trying to install on it. Have been through every major distro, but is seems the later the version of the software the more unlikely it is to install with no issues.   For example I can install the software on version 5.6 of CentOS no worries but try to use version 6 and it crashes out with the mysql install.  The proprietary software installs its own version of all the needed MYSQL, and has major issues with the way that works on the newer distro's.  I can only assume that, that is the reason for my issues. Lots of people ask if Linux is a real alternative to windows.  The answer is both yes and no. Windows out of the box is ready to install apps and runs full multimedia devices no issues at all.  Its primary issues are based around the fact that it is realitvely insecure and you need lots of extra software to make it do what you want it to.  For exanple to word process effectively or re

Gloabl sit ins

If you searched this post then you know I am talking about the global phenomena, of sitting in against corporate and government greed.  This movement seems to have galvanized the disenfranchised from all walks of life.  They call themselves the 99%, and I somewhat  agree with them. Most Australians say nothing, they wont protest they wont act to make a noise, the only time you see them unhappy is when they vote.  The vote is the outlet for peoples displeasure with the world. Now in any other time in Australian history the change by voting would make a sea change in ideas.  That is not the case today, both sides aim for the middle and we the voting public are left with no real choice.  With company profits soaring, governments seen is inept at taping that wealth for the nation, more and more people are feeling left behind. There is also an underlying anger that mining companies such as BHP Biliton make more money than the government takes for raping our nation of its mineral wealt

To Cope

Image
Warning Heavy Rambling Post but please read The more and more I live with this illness I have begun to understand that you do some extraordinary things to just cope with the things that happen to you.  Some days its just enough to know that tomorrow wont be the same as today. Sunrise another reason to make it through the night To live each moment without having plans for the future.  A future that may never be.  I have spent days inside my own head unable to escape to be part of the world around me.  I have to prick myself to make me bleed so I can break away from the thoughts and the trap I set for myself.  I don't mean self harm I mean I may listen to music or even read something that I know will evoke a mental reaction.  Normally to make me cry. You say your insane why would you intentionally make yourself upset.  Because if I don't I cant break free of the mental stress, the fixation the devastation and destruction.  I fear what I become when I am like that, I can
